Meeting ID: 882 2046 7648
Passcode: 649767

Topics to be discussed at our March 7, 2022, meeting:

  • Robberies at our North End businesses.
  • Fast tracking to permit an enormous warehouse in South Tacoma, over Tacoma’s largest aquifer (reported by the Tacoma Weekly and the Tacoma News Tribune)
    • Written comments must be received by the City by March 10 at 5pm (Permit LU21-125
    • City staff contact: Shirley Schultz, shirley.schultz@cityoftacoma.org or 253-345-0879
  • Our feature presentation will be from City of Tacoma Senior Planner Elliott Barnett updating us on Home in Tacoma, Phase 2, which affects all neighborhoods, city-wide. Phase 2 is where “…policy work and community engagements to develop zoning and standards to implement Tacoma’s new housing growth strategy” will occur.

Home in Tacoma Recap: There are two new neighborhood zoning classifications, replacing formerly called Single-Family zoning.

  • Low-scale Residential: single family detached houses; Accessory Dwelling Unit; duplex; tri-plex. And in some cases, 4-plex and small apartments.
  • Mid-scale Residential: Townhouses and up to 3 to 4 story apartments

There is a new interactive map which the City Council approved December 7, 2021. Check out your neighborhood. Yellow represents low-scale residential; salmon/pink is mid-scale residential — note that it also includes all low-scale housing types.

Many of you pushed for stronger City outreach to residents, allowing us to be included in determining how our neighborhoods will incorporate the “missing middle” housing. While the City employed social media tools during Phase I, with the loosening of public gatherings, some are asking for weekend meetings or evening meetings after 6:00 p.m. to allow for attendance after work. Elliott is looking for how to more robustly interact with residents, so come with your ideas!

We hope to have the NENC meeting recorded and posted on the NENC Facebook page after the meeting.
