Board Position Opening

Due to a member’s resignation, the NENC currently has an open Board position. To be considered for the position, you must live, work, or own property or a business physically located within the North End Neighborhood boundaries.

If you are interested in applying for the position, please send an email to board@nenc.org stating your name, contact information, intent to be considered for the position, and qualifications to be on the NENC Board.

It is anticipated that the Board will vote to fill the position at their Febuary 6, 2012 meeting.

Letter to Tacoma City Mayor & City Council – December 6, 2011

(The following was sent in an email to Tacoma Mayor & City Council in advance of the 12/6/2011 City Council Meeting)

Mayor Strickland and Members of the Tacoma City Council,

I am writing to you on behalf of the North End Neighborhood Council. We have reviewed your proposed cuts to the Tacoma Police and Fire Departments.

We are not in favor of making any cuts to these services which are absolutely essential to the health, safety, and quality of life in our City.

The North End Neighborhood Council believes that it is the purpose and function of Government to first provide Police, Fire, and emergency services to its Citizens. Those services should be the last to be cut, not among the first.

At our Board Meeting yesterday evening, a motion was passed unanimously to urge our Mayor and City Council Members to look to the reduction of all other City services – and if necessary the elimination of City Departments – before any reduction in Police, Fire, and other emergency services is considered.

NENC 2011 Board Election Results

Monday, November 14th 2011 6PM, the North End Neighborhood Council conducted its 2011 elections.

There were 8 positions, and 8 candidates ran for those positions.
Ballots were distributed and cast.

By acclamation, the North End Neighborhood Council voted to elect all 8 candidates to each position.

The total vote pool was 16 voters. Here are the breakdowns by candidate:

Dave Schrodel: 11 votes
Morgan Alexander: 10 votes
Mary Jo Strom-Copland: 14 votes
Chris Van Vechten: 13 votes
Margaret Stiffler: 16 votes
Jim Bush: 16 votes
Bea Christopherson: 10 votes
Rachel Cardwell: 12 votes
