2025 Legislative Session Report –

27th District Legislators – Speaker Laurie Jinkins and Senator Yasmin Trudeau will be at the meeting to report on the recently completed session and answer questions.

8) Legislative Update – Speaker Laurie Jinkins and Senator Yasmin Trudeau

The 2025 Washington state legislative session ended on April 27th and saw a significant focus on addressing a $15 billion budget deficit, with lawmakers passing several revenue bills to offset the shortfall. Key areas of discussion included housing, with bills addressing rent increases and tenant rights, and debates over parental rights and school funding. Listen to our 27th District legislators explain what happened and answer questions from the audience.

Our apologies for the omission of the advertised One Tacoma: Comprehensive Plan presentation.  On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, the City Council will conduct a public hearing on the draft One Tacoma Comprehensive Plan update and the NENC will be rescheduling the presentation for later in the year.
 
 
NOTE: Our next meeting will be Monday, July 7 when we will receive a presentation on water issues including presentations on how wastewater and stormwater issues are addressed.
 

Wheelock Public Library Reopens on June 7th
After being closed for the months of April and May for HVAC repairs, we are excited about being able to once again
visit our neighborhood library! In the meantime, the final days of lobby service will take place on Tues., June 3 and
Wed., June 4 th from 5-7:00 pm. The annual Summer Reading Challenge begins on Saturday, June 21. To see all of the

The Future for Historic Cushman & Adams Substations

Located at the intersection of N. 21 st and N. Adams, the Cushman and Adams substations were built in the 1920’s to
bring electricity from the Cushman Dam to Tacoma. These two buildings were place on the Tacoma Register of
Historic Places in 2017. Between now and 2027 when TPU formally surpluses these buildings and adjoining properties,
the City of Tacoma is studying potential future uses for these buildings and sites. You can stay informed and join the
