Big Changes Are Coming to Tacoma’s Neighborhoods
Now is the time to make your voice heard about the future of housing in our City that has been outlined in the plan called Home in Tacoma. During the past 2+ years, our City has reached out to inform our citizens about these big changes by notifying us with mailed postcards, emails, social media, press releases and in person events at locations including our North End Neighborhood Council meetings.
Currently, our City is seeking your input about these big changes.
Q. What are these changes and how will they affect your own neighborhood?
A. Single family zoning is being replaced by multi-family housing zoning throughout our City. That means that the following multi-family housing types will be able to be built within all single family neighborhoods: duplex up to 6-plex, town houses, row houses, backyard buildings, courtyard housing and also multi-plex housing that could be built up to 2.5 stories tall.
Please See the Home in Tacoma Website and then Speak Up!

Watch the Zoom of the Home in Tacoma Informational Session from Feb. 20, 2024
Attend the Planning Commission Public Hearing on this Wed., March 6, 5:30
– City Council Chambers, 747 Market Street and also on Zoom. Voice your questions and comments.
Provide Your Written Comments by Friday, March 8. Send them to planning@cityoftacoma.org
Support the Landscaping Code section of Home in Tacoma
As more and more multi-family housing will be constructed within our City in the coming years, the new tree regulations will help protect our mature trees and ensure that many more will be planted to improve our very low tree canopy from 20% to 30%.
Please go to our NENC website and Facebook page to read the North End Neighborhood Board’s letter to the Planning Commission describing our stance on the Home in Tacoma plan.
