A big thank you to Lowell Wyse from the TACOMA TREE FOUNDATION who was the presenter at our August Membership Meeting. We are posting his presentation for everyone’s information, but we would also mention his two “advocacy suggestions” for us, which were:
- City of Tacoma proposed right-of-way tree code update—support replacing our century-old tree codes! Scheduled presentation before City Council IPS Committee on 9/13/23 at 4:30–6:30 p.m.
- Tree Preservation Ordinance to be considered alongside Home in Tacoma code updates (2024). Tell your elected officials that we need more housing AND more trees!
Following Lowell’s presentation, a motion was made, and approved, for the NENC to donate $1,000 to the Tacoma Tree Foundation.
Our liaison from the City Manager’s office, Christina Caan, mentioned several survey opportunities and the links to those surveys are as follows:

We were also introduced to the new owner and publisher of the Weekly Volcano Newspaper Angela Jossy.
She is looking for community feedback on what everyone would like to see them covering in the future and invited everyone to subscribe to their weekly newsletter.
