The Citywide Impact of the 2.5 Million Square Foot South Tacoma Warehouse
“If you’re concerned about traffic safety (neighborhood and on the freeway), health (air quality and mental health), or environmental justice (especially reducing health inequities due to environmental sacrifice zones), then please get involved in pressuring the city to act to protect us in light of the upcoming mega warehouse in South Tacoma.” Michelle Mood, reporter for The Weekly June 23, 2023. “The South Tacoma Bridge Industrial warehouse will pave 125 acres to build a complex of buildings 50 feet tall covering an area of 50 football fields (over Tacoma’s aquifer)”. And that will mean that 1,000+ large semi-trucks will be traveling each day to and from the warehouse utilizing SR 16 and the Union Avenue exit clogging our roads and freeway, and adding huge amounts of pollution to the air that we breathe. In addition, there will be an estimated 5,000 smaller vehicles using the facility 24/7. Many of our local citizen groups as well as the Pierce County Health Dept., US EPA and the Wash. Dept. of Ecology are asking for the City to complete a Health Impact Assessment. For more information go to bit.ly/tacomawarehouse You are invited to join the discussions at 5:30 each Thursday’s zoom meetings: Meeting ID 884-5247-5350 Passcode 765348
