For the month of November, we’ll be picking-up litter in South Tacoma – Manitou Park. To participate, all you need to bring with you is a litter grabber. If you don’t have one, consider supporting a locally owned hardware store like McLendon or Ace Hardware. You can also find them at Lowe’s, Costco or Home Depot. Plastic bags, vests and gloves are provided courtesy of the City of Tacoma, through the “Neighborhood Litter Patrol” program.
Something *UNIQUE* to the November pick-up is… we’ll be collecting, completely optional, donations for the folks receiving support at the Tacoma Rescue Mission! The Tacoma Rescue Mission has identified the following HIGH in DEMAND items – large bottles of shampoo and conditioner, hand warmers and adult wool socks. More details will be included in an email, IG posts and stories. Thanks for the GREAT idea, Peter!!!
To keep us organized, a South Tacoma resident/host will help us develop one to two litter pick-up routes. A map of the pick-up routes and safety protocol will be emailed out two days before the event. We’ll have pre-assigned volunteers responsible for collecting full trash bags and providing additional supplies throughout the pick-up. Kids are welcome to attend if an adult is providing close supervision. We are asking all volunteers to wear masks.
Giveaways: The first 5 volunteers to arrive will receive a litter grabber to use or borrow – otherwise please bring your own or be prepared to use gloves! We’ll have plastic gloves to wear under the thicker cotton ones. A handful of lucky volunteers will win raffle prizes from South Tacoma businesses – The Church Cantina and Moctezuma’s. Donated raffle prizes include Grand Cinema movie and food tickets, Lovesome Dove prize pack and gift cards from Komadre Kombucha and Off Day Beer and Wine. Details about businesses and prizes will be included in posts and stories on Instagram – keep your eye out! https://bit.ly/NovPick-Up
To expedite the check-in process, forward this email to any adult you’re bringing with you, so they can complete the RSVP and review consents. Link to RSVP can also be found in our Instagram bio.
Thank you!
