Important Message about Home in Tacoma 2 Proposal

The North End Neighborhood Council (NENC) has been actively involved in the discussions about the Home in Tacoma proposals. Unfortunately, it appears that the concerns of the NENC and other similar groups have been ignored and we have concerns that the proposal as it stands will have negative impacts on Tacoma’s Neighborhoods without addressing the goals that Home in Tacoma was supposed to address.

The North End Neighborhood Council will continue to advocate for changes in the Home in Tacoma proposal but we would ask that individuals and groups with similar concerns also make their concerns known. A simple way to do that is to sign the petition being promoted by the “Save Our Tacoma Neighborhoods” group with the following link.

In addition, there is a companion petition from Tacoma Urban Forest Friends (TUFF) which supports the inclusion of a “Landscaping Code” within the Home in Tacoma 2 proposal.

It’s the first time the Planning Commission has voted to include within the Tacoma Municipal Code a provision that actually affords protections of older trees in Tacoma’s tree canopy.

Enough developing. Visual blight along the Waterfront is too bright. You’re ruining the ecosystem. Whoever came up with that lighting , that it is overkill. Did not have their thinking cap on. We don’t need any more developing on the North end. The traffic is bumper to bumper enough. There is no easy way out or in. It’s a matter of time before there’s a Mudslide and it pushes everything into the water. People have been cutting down the support for that hill. Road work needs to be done. We don’t need more houses. The permits need to stop on the North End as well as University place. And as well as all of Pierce county. We don’t have any room. Our Wildlife is in our backyard. And that is because illegal permitting all the way at Mount rainier. They have overdeveloped that. Enough is enough. People can buy what’s existing. The only piss permits that should be approved are to tear down the old and build new what the same square footage. Need to have a boundary on how high you can go. Only as tall as your neighbor. At the house is blighted refurbish it. Let the rich people go somewhere else. We are done. With more developing comes more crime. Every time you cut a tree down there goes the home of a lot of wildlife. We have a bear in the neighborhood, a cougar. And squirrels and raccoons have lost their home. Animals are human-like. They know they are running out of houses especially during the winter. They’re having their babies in our backyard. Is it cruelty for the neighbor to try to chase it off while it’s giving birth? We need to build our own chalets and our backyards to protect our deer in the babies during the winter. I will advocate for that but not another tiny home or House built on any vacant land. If you own a home by the property next door. How control over your neighborhood. I think the council members of the North End have done enough mess with that crap along the waterfront that’s overpriced. I would not eat at any of those restaurants. Been there done that and will never go back.

The push for more trees gets a bit much especially along Union Ave when they obstruct views of oncoming traffic at turns. The need to prune back is essential ( top to free wires, prevent dead limbs that cannot withstand heavy rain nor snow)

Curb appeal seems dumping in some residential areas where cars park on front lawns especially on my street. ( N Washington)
