Tacoma Public Utilities – John Gaines, Community Relations Manager
 
TPU is currently in the process of preparing the budget and rates for the upcoming 2025-2026 biennium. They will provide a presentation and discuss utility assistance and budget priorities.

9) Pierce County Councilor – Robyn Denson
 
Robyn Denson is our Pierce County representative for parts of North and West Tacoma (in addition to communities in Gig Harbor and the Key Peninsula).  Before being elected to represent the 7th District on the Pierce County Council, Robyn was a Gig Harbor City Council member and served four terms on the City Parks Commission.  Robyn has been a small business owner, has worked for the State House of Representatives and has over 20 years of experience working for non-profit organizations. She loves the great outdoors, is an environmental advocate, and has a passion for conserving land for generations to enjoy far into the future.
 
10) City of Tacoma’s Participatory Budgeting Program- Kenny Coble, Community Engagement Coordinator
 
 
The City of Tacoma’s Participatory Budgeting program is a democratic process in which a community decides how to spend a portion of their government’s budget. The City of Tacoma has set aside $1,000,000 for each of Tacoma’s five city council districts to dedicate to improving their communities and voting for selected projects in Council District 2 is now underway. 

11) Tacoma Community House – Aimee Khuu, Executive Director
 
Tacoma Community House is helping individuals and families address systemic barriers and exit cycles of poverty; strengthening the fabric of the Pierce County community by creating multi-generational change. Since 1910, they have been promoting social justice through equity-advancing programs of Education, Employment, Legal Services (Immigration & Advocacy), and youth housing.

NOTE: Our next meeting will be Monday, October 7 when we will have an Election Forum and a presentation on the Charter Review Proposal to be included in the November Ballot.

 

More Trees, Please! Fall Tree Planting Time is Here
This summer, a record was set for the most number of consecutive days with temperatures of
80 degrees or more. Two of the most beneficial ways to keep cool, is to preserve our City’s
shady tree canopy and plant more trees for our future generations to enjoy.

• Tree Coupon Program These coupons are available to request from Oct. 1 st until March 15
from Tacoma Urban Forestry. These coupons can be redeemed by March 31 for $30 off per tree
purchased (up to 3 trees) at local participating nurseries including our local Gardensphere.

The Tacoma Tree Foundation is doing a tremendous job helping to grow Tacoma’s urban

WSU’s “Grit City Tree Count” in Tacoma
Washington State University’s Forest Health Lab would like to enlist volunteers to map and
monitor Tacoma’s Urban Forest. https://treehealth.wsu.edu/tacoma/

Tacoma Urban Forest Friends (TUFF) We encourage our Tacoma residents to sign the
TUFF Petition that asks the Tacoma’s City Council to take steps to protect and extend our tree

The Historic Cushman Street Fair
We’d like to thank everyone who made this event possible: Jodi Cook, Felicity Devlin, Deputy
Mayor John Hines, Lauren Hoogkamer and all of our NENC board members and many other
awesome volunteers. A big thank you goes to former mayor Bill Baarsma for his presentation
and also our terrific Master of Ceremonies, Chris Staudinger from Pretty Gritty Tours.

Cushman and Adams Substations Future Use Study Public Workshops
