Volunteer commission opportunities – City of Tacoma Environmental Service Commission (ESC)

Staff at the City of Tacoma reached out to NENC to let neighbors know about an opportunity to serve on the City’s Environmental Service Commission (ESC). 

Two positions are currently open on the commission:

  • Position 11: Any citizen that lives in a single-family residence located in Council District 1.
  • Position 8: Multi-family Interests; person must own or manage an apartment building(s) and live anywhere in Tacoma.

The ESC is a 15 member group that advises City staff and the City Council on important matters regarding ES utility services. Commissioners represent a cross section of Tacoma’s residential, business and regulatory communities and are selected by the City Manager and/or Environmental Services Director to serve three-year terms. The ESC typically meets on the first Thursday of each month from 4-6 pm. 

The Environmental Services Commission plays an essential role in helping Environmental Services make plans to improve services, set rates for service, establish policies, plan for capital investments, and develop programs for all users of the surface water, wastewater, and solid waste utilities.   Additional information about the Commission may be accessed at the following web site:
