As part of the Home in Tacoma project the City of Tacoma Council committed to studying the issue of Tacoma’s trees. That project is currently being reviewed in the Infrastrure, Plamnning and Sustainability Committee.

Tacoma Tree Foundation– Dr. Lowell Wyse, Executive Director
Founded in 2018, this non-profit organization’s mission is “to grow community stewardship of the Urban Forest across Greater Tacoma through planting, education and advocacy.” The TTF new office is located in the Community Hub on the second floor of the Main Branch of the Tacoma Public Library. Visitors are welcome to visit with staff during their “Open Hours”, each Wed., 5:00-7:00. You are invited to join their August events:

Tacoma’s Urban Forest Priority Action Plan
Adopted by the City Council in May 2025, this plan outlines a set of phased actions to expand the City’s planting and maintaining of trees, as well as regulatory tools for tree preservation citywide. The goal is to plant 243,000 trees in Tacoma by 2050. Public engagement is encouraged!

Water Your Trees, Please
Water is important for all trees, as our summers get hotter and drier. Even mature trees may need one or two good soakings a month during the summer.
DISCOVER the Main Branch of the Tacoma Public Library!
After an extensiveremodeling, this downtown library reopened on Feb. 1, 2026. In addition to a wide array of reading materials, this amazing library offers many other amenities including:
• A Maker Lab that features a Wonder Lab, Memory Lab and Digital Lab on the first floor
• the Handforth Gallery that showcases work from local artists
• Northwest Room that preserves and provides access to Pacific NW historical materials
